Filmmaking & Storytelling Workshop

TSA organized a three day Filmmaking & Storytelling workshop in Mullativu for youth from districts around the country including Anuradhapura, Ampara, Batticoloa, Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mullativu, Nuwara Eliya and Polonnaruwa from the 20th of August to the 23rd of August 2020.

The workshop trained 40 young filmmakers (Directors, Cinematographers, Editors, Actors etc) on their individual projects that included 10 short films, 4 documentaries and 4 street dramas.

The event was also attended by 120 young school children from Mullativu who participated in team building exercises and a session introducing them
to the Arts.

Performers from all three communities also came together to treat the youth to Karagam dances, Polladi and Wadiga Patuna as a show of solidarity and the universality of culture.

The purpose of the workshop was to prepare the youth on their respective content creation projects by providing them with storytelling tools such as Storyboarding, Shot Selection and Budgeting. In addition to technical
knowledge, the youth were also involved with discussions of previously made short films followed by thematic and production based discussions.

The technical assistance was provided by the Vattrapalai International Institute of Arts and Film (VIIAF). The workshop concluded with 18 projects being finalized and confirmed for completion by the end of 2020.
